Kimberley Process

The system of certification, says Kimberley's process, was set up in 2003, by the European Commission, and came into effect the same year. It follows upon the penalties of the National council for safety of Nations United against "the fly-away movements" of Sierra Leone and Angola, and against the government of Liberia.

The African producing countries were for the initiative of a meeting with importer countries, industry of the diamond and civil society(non-trading company). This said initiative "process Kimberley" allowed to develop a system of certification for the international trade of rough diamonds.

The objective of the process of Kimberley is to make so that the diamonds of the war (blood diamonds) do not any more serve to finance the armed conflicts and to compromise the official market and legitimize rough diamonds.

This system of certification is a diet checking the exports and the imports of rough diamonds.

The imports of rough diamonds not accompanied by a certificate freed by a producing country participating in Kimberley's process, as well as exports aimed at no participants, is forbidden.
