Haüyne

  • Etymology : A gem dedicated to Abbé René Just Haüy, a great French mineralogist and crystallographer (1743-1822). It was first named "Latialite" in 1803 by Carlo Giuseppe Gismondi after the locality Latium.
  • Discovery: 1807 by Brunn-Neegard
  • Type localityMonte Somma, Latium, Italy

The only cut gem crystals come from the Effel in Germany. They are turquoise blue to intense ultramarine blue.
