Diamond (black)

Diamond (black)
  • Etymology : From Greek " adamas " = invincibility. The name diamond was used for the first time by Pline 100 BC.

Black diamond was used little in jewellery until 1999. It was then put in fashion by the Swiss jeweller De Grisogono using it mainly in paving alternating with white diamond paving.

The world’s largest black diamond is the Spirit of Grisogono, from the jewellery company of the same name. This diamond is mounted on a ring and weighs 312.34ct.

Its color is due to the inclusion of hematite or graphite.
