Cordierite

  • Etymology : Cordierite is dedicated to the French geologist and mineralogist Louis Cordier, who first described it as dichroit.
  • Discovery: 1813 by Lucas
  • Type localityBodenmais, Bavaria, Germany.

Cordieria is of vitreous lustre to matte and is of blue color; but with a blue, yellow, violet trichroism. It has an irregular, subconchoidal conchoidal fracture.
