Celestite

Celestite

  • Synonym : Coelstine, Eschwegite, Sicilianite.
  • Etymology : From the Latin "coelestis" = celestial in allusion to the color of the first samples.
  • Discovery: 1799 by Abraham Gottlieb Werner
  • Type localityBell's Mill, Bellwood, Blair Co., Pennsylvania, USA.

Célestite is a collectible stone, very difficult to cut. The faceted specimens diffuse a pale blue color that earned it its name of celestine
