Titanite

Titanite
  • Synonym : Sphène
  • Etymology : The (feminine in French) word Titanite comes from its strong content in Titanium, as for the (masculine in French) word Sphène it comes that from that the Greek word " sphenos " which means "corner" because of the shape of its crystals.
  • Discovery: 1796 by The term titanite was used by Richard Kirwan in 1796 to indicate it rutile

The big peculiarity of Titanite ( Sphène) is its shine, or "fires"("lights"), sometimes more brilliant than the diamond. We find this stone in a wide color range going of the green to the red via(including) the brown, the orange and the yellow

It is a stone appreciated  particularly collectors.

Sphène ( Titanite) is a stone known since 1787; however it will be really identified only in 1795 by Martin Klaproth. The word Sphène is more used in gemology whereas the mineralogists use rather the word Titanite.

It is a rarely pure stone, in which the inclusions are admitted.

Also, stones exceeding 5ct are rare and very sought.

Color the most appreciated in Titanites ( Sphènes) is yellow green or intense green; however the orangy red or yellow color is in great demand also. At any rate, the size of the stone is very important, because thanks to her we can take advantage of the intense shine (fires)) of the stone, which makes all its beauty …
