The diamond the Regent is one of the most famous diamonds.

This diamond results from the appearance of Golconde, in India. It was the 426 carat diamond which was bought by Thomas Pitt, English governor of strong Saint-Georges in Madras. The diamond arrives in England in 1702.

The diamond was then cut again in a diamond of form 140,50 carat pillow and in several secondary stones which were sold to Czar Peter the Great. This size was realized from 1704 till 1706.

It was resold on June 6th, 1717 to the Council of the Regency under the influence of the Regent of France Philippe of Orléans.

This is when this diamond became " The Regent " and became a part of the royal Treasury. it was concerned by Louis XV his crown during his coronation, on October 25th, 1722.

It was stolen in 1792, then found in 1793, hidden in a skeleton.

It was pawned, repeatedly by the Directory, then the Consulate, in particular to finance the campaign of Italy of general Bonaparte.

Bonaparte, become first consul, bought back it in 1801.

The Regent decorated the crosspiece of Napoleon's two-edged sword during his coronation in 1804.

Marie Louise of Austria took it during her exile. But the Austrian emperor restored the diamond the Regent in France. it was re-entered in the royal Treasury.

It was set successively on the crown of Louis XVIII, Charles X,, then Napoleon III and finally on the diadem of Empress Eugénie

The diamond the Regent is visible in the gallery Apollo of the Musée du Louvre in Paris. Today still, it is considered as the most beautiful diamond of the world.
