Orthose

Orthose
  • Translations : Orthoclase, Ортоклаз, Ortoklas, Orthoklaas, Ortoclasio, 正長石, 정장석, Ortoclase, 正长石, Ortoclasa, אורתוקלז
  • Synonym : Argillyite, Common Feldspar, Cottaite, Leelite, Muldan, Murchisonite, Paradoxite
  • Etymology : From Greek " orthos " = straight ahead. Johann August Friedrich Breithaupt described it under the term of Orthoclase. The term Orthose invented by Haüy is the French-speaking usual name.
  • Discovery: 1823 by Johann August Friedrich Breithaupt

The orthose belongs to the family of the potassium feldspars.

Some people orthoses of big purity can be cut. They are of colorless color in yellow, yellow pinkish. Large-dimension, very pure, yellow specimens were found in Madagascar.

The orthose, as all the feldspars is one gemstone of average hardness. It can be used in jewelry(jeweler's store) but by watching to plan a frame which protects the stone.
