- Type localityIhorombe region (Fianarantsoa Province) at about 80 km north-east of the village of Betroka (23◦1600300 S, 46◦0504900 E), in southern Madagascar
- Comment : Une nouvelle espèce minérale attribuée en juillet 2019 à une variété de milarite

Les cristaux de Laurentthomasite sont tabulaires. Ils montrent des inclusions sombre riches en Fe²+.
Les cristaux montrent un fort dichroïsme allant d'une couleur bleu cobalt à vert-jaune.
Le dichroïsme est du à une transition entre les ions Fe2+ et Fe3+
