Diamond Darya-e-Noor

  • Comment : The diamond Darya-e-Noor, the famous pink diamond.

The diamond Darya-e-Noor (or Darya-e-Nour) is a pale pink diamond of 182 carats. In Persian, "Darya-e-Noor" means " sea of light ". it is a part of treasures of the Iranian crown.

This diamond was extracted in India of the mine of Golkonda.

As for Koh-I-Noor, it was the ownership of emperors Moghol. In 1739, Nadir Shah invades India and seizes the treasure Moghol. It since stayed in Iran

In 1926, Reza Shah concerns this diamond in decoration its military helmet. It was also worn by Mohammed Reza Shah during his crowning in 1967.

In 1965, a study of this diamond showed that he could come from a pink diamond which would have been cut in two stones. This diamond had been described, in 1642, by the French joailler Tavernier. He had called it "Diamanta Grande Table".

Of this initial diamond, the most important diamond would thus be Darya-e-Noor and the other one Noor-ol-Ein, a 60 carat diamond. The latter rose at present on a diadem of the collection of the jewels of Iranian crown.
