  • Etymology : From the Greek αξίνα ("axina") for "axe", in allusion of the crystal form resembles a "francisque", a two-headed axe.
  • Discovery: 1797 by Named by René Just Haüy
  • Type localitySt Christophe - Bourg d’Oisans - Isère - France.

The axinite is not the name of mineral species, but the name of a group of a serie from ferro-axinite to mangano axinite.

It is a gem for collectors.
